| Margo Pellegrino's Blog![]() Ventura!I can't believe I'm in SoCal! The water is getting warmer and I still have swell and wind at my back-am hoping this holds for at least one more week! Most of today's paddle, though, was locked in fog, but woohoo, I had company! Read more »

Kelp and Pt. ConceptionI think I've been awake since at least 3:30 listening to the pounding surf. It's not particularly large, but it breaks fairly close to shore so it sounds seriously dramatic. I left Port San Luis a little later than I should have yesterday. It was easy to do, everyone was so friendly and it was nice and warm in the coffee shop. It was nice to hang out inside out of the damp fog. Read more »

San Luis Bay, Avila BeachI'm doing something different tonight. I'm actually blogging while June is making dinner. She's making something pretty carb and fat intensive to help me get through the next couple of long days. If anyone told me I'd be paddling 50 mile days on the Pacific Coast I'd’ve told 'em to go pound salt, that I wouldn't even think of it without a chase boat. Read more »

San SimeonJune and I were hosted by Carolyn Skinder, fed by her and another employee, Brittany, and a sweet couple, George and Marge. Marge volunteers at the Monterey Marine Sanctuary outpost in San Simeon, where I managed to avoid ensnarement in kelp and have a nice landing in the very protected cove. It's a beautiful place to visit, and there's the Hearst Castle of in the distance and an elephant seal or two hanging about. Read more »

Limekiln CampgroundJune and I are slowly inching our way down the coast. Can't believe the number of remote areas in this amazing state. Like the Lost Coast of NoCal, we once again find ourselves with no service. Read more »

Leaving Monterey and Civilization - yet againJune and I are lying here in our respective tents. This was our roughest tent night yet, between the flapping of our tents in the wind and the strong moon, sleep eluded both of us. At least today's paddle is not one of the longer ones. Read more »

Pigeon Point to Santa CruzJune and I are being hosted by Chris Laughlin's mother here in Santa Cruz. Chris is with Ocean Champions, the only political voice for the ocean. Her group, founded by David Wilmont, seeks to get "ocean friendly" politicians elected. It is becoming a force to be reckoned with. Read more »

Heading to Santa Cruz & thinking of BolinasCeviche Fred joined me on yesterday's paddle from Half Moon Bay to Pigeon Point. We had decided to abort the stop at Anyo Nuevo because of the nature of the landing spot and lack of canoe storage, as well as the fact that the waters are very sharky. Anyo Nuevo boasts a giant elephant seal colony, and all the Great Whites hang out there waiting for tasty young elephant seals. Read more »
