I was looking to leave town with my daughter and take a nature based, mini vacation as this summer has been exceptionally hectic and we really needed to get away. It had to meet a few basic requirements, it needed to be short range, economical and laid back. She is really into horses and I am "Joe kayak" so we came up with a perfect way to combine the both of them. We decided a road trip down to Virginia and Maryland's Asseteague Islands would be perfect. Comments and thoughts from Economic benefits of rebuilding fisheries press conference 7-23-09I am Capt. I am on the twin rivers alot but have intentionally avoided the scene out of respect for these wonderful creatures. As an ecotour kayak guide, offering trips on the Navesink, I was asked many times to do a Flipper tour and refused. Read more » |

There is a “United we fish” rally planned for the end of February and this is one fisherman that won’t be going on the trip. I find the entire premise of this event to be very misleading to sporting anglers like myself and the recreational angling community.
I couldn't resist taking a ride this evening at High tide to take a look at the beach. I started in Spring Lake and worked my way north thru Belmar. Ocean ave in Spring lake was a real mess. It looked more like it does during a snow storm, except it was all sand. Sand piled up along the roadway and then covering the road itself.
